Personal finance in academic literature: a bibliometric study

Abstract

This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of scientific output in the field of personal finance. To this end, a review of the existing literature on the subject was conducted in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The R programming language was used, and the analysis was developed using its Bibliometrix library. The main bibliometric indicators were obtained, which were used to evaluate the performance of scientific activity. The conceptual structure was studied, and an overview of the evolution of the topic over time was obtained by studying keywords. The results show that the most productive authors were Grable J, O'Neill B, and Walstad W; the most important journals in terms of production were the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning and the International Journal of Bank Marketing; and the most popular topics were financial literature and financial education.
