Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of the research was to analyze the importance of the peasant market in the peasant families of the El Trébol, La Quiebra del Naranjal and La Floresta villages of the municipality of Chinchiná (Caldas) in the first half of 2023 to understand their participation in the socioeconomic development of the municipality through information from government entities and the rural population. We worked under qualitative research with an Action Research approach and descriptive design, which provided a direct channel with peasant families to learn about the agricultural products that generate income. Participant observation and interviews were used as techniques, making it easier to collect information. Quota sampling was used to select a representative sample of peasant families in different villages. The results showed interconnection between peasant markets, the local economy and cultural identity; furthermore, the importance of women’s participation and their empowerment in a market that has been thought to be exclusive for men; in parallel, the impact of the market on families and the community in general was highlighted. Thus, this research provides an understanding of the relevance of the peasant market in the local economy and its role in the sustainable development of Chinchiná.
